Julia is an Acupuncturist, Herbalist, and Chinese Medicine practitioner based on the island of O‘ahu.

Though born and raised on O'ahu, Julia has spent a decade abroad, fascinated by natural healing in indigenous cultures as well as sustainable ways for humans to exist on Earth. Whether it be completing an herbal medicine apprenticeship in Israel, studying ceremonial plant medicine in the Peruvian Amazon, working in a permaculture school and spiritual retreat center in New Zealand, or living off the mushrooms and edible plants in the forests of Romania, plant medicine has played an integral role in her own healing journey as well as her studies.

Julia's insatiable curiosity also led her to trek through sustainable mountain communities in Mexican mountains, study Chakra Yoga in the jungles of Thailand, participate in Shugendo fire ceremonies in the mountains of Japan, and shadow doctors at integrative medicine hospitals and clinics in China.  Traveling has encoded within Julia a map of natural healing modalities that have great potential to be applied in our modern society.

Julia also works with minerals and crystals as part of her healing practice, specializing in stone medicine of Taoist lineage. She strongly believes in the body's inherent ability to heal itself, with the help of tools given to us by nature and by ancient medical practices that have remained effective for thousands of years.

“When I am among the trees,

especially the willows and the honey locust,

equally the beech, the oaks and the pines,

they give off such hints of gladness.

I would almost say that they save me, and daily.

I am so distant from the hope of myself,

in which I have goodness, and discernment,

and never hurry through the world

but walk slowly, and bow often.

Around me the trees stir in their leaves

and call out, “Stay awhile.”

The light flows from their branches.

And they call again, “It’s simple,” they say,

“and you too have come

into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled

with light, and to shine.”

SERVICES

Chinese medicine has remained effective for thousands of years because it is both a personalized and adaptive approach to a person's dynamic state of health.  The aim is to bring the body back into harmony.  When there is disharmony, disease arises.  The medicine works on both the physiological and energetic systems to embrace the whole person, rather than solely eliminating symptoms.

Depending on the patterns presented, different modalities may be indicated for use. The first appointment includes 20 - 30 minutes of inquiry about various aspects of the individual's health history and lifestyle.  During this time, Julia will determine which modalities would be best suited for the patient's health concerns.   For example, acupuncture appointments will often include herbal recommendations. Herbs may cost an additional $10–$30 depending on the case. Cupping is commonly combined with acupuncture, as is moxibustion smoke therapy (available for home visits only).
